Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behaviour toward both males and females, or to more than one gender. It may also be defined to include romantic or sexual attraction to people regardless of their sex or gender identity, which is also known as pansexuality. A Bi person does not have to feel the same level of attraction for one gender as for the another, an this may change in time as well.
The term “bisexual community” includes those who identify as bisexual, pansexual/omnisexual, biromantic, polysexual, sexually fluid or bicurious. Prevalence: 1.8% Men and 2.8% of Woman consider themselves as Bisexual.

Why is it relevant:

„…the development of a lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) sexual identity is a complex and often difficult process. Unlike members of other minority groups (e.g., ethnic and racial minorities), most LGB individuals are not raised in a community of similar others from whom they learn about their identity and who reinforce and support that identity. Rather, LGB individuals are often raised in communities that are either ignorant of or openly hostile toward homosexuality.  [Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, Braun (2006)]“

Bisexual persons are too often from their social environment, and also from Gay and Lesbian community stated as undecisive, manipulative, incapable of monogamy or as a phase and their feelings are not valued as equally valid. The experience is unique for Bi community and different to lesbian, gay, trans or intersex community.

The Bisexuality Day is Ian opportunity to celebrate diverse bi identities, raise the voices of bi people, and call for positive change.

History:

This celebration of bisexuality in particular, as opposed to general LGBT events, was conceived as a response to the prejudice and marginalization of bisexual people by some in both the straight and greater LGBT communities. Started for the first time in 1999 in Johannesburg, SA. Since 2014 the Bi-Awareness Week started beginning on 16. September.
